Gospel – What’s That?

 The gospel is a very important word in the Bible. It means “good news”. Good news is when someone tells you about something really good that has happened. Have you heard any good news lately?

 Why does the Bible have a special word “gospel”? Why doesn’t the Bible just say “good news”?
The word “gospel” means a little more than just the usual kinds of good news we hear about. Long ago, when the Bible was written, there were no telephones or televisions or emails or anything like that to send good news to other people. In order for someone to know about your good news, you had to visit them and tell them in person. So a lot of good news didn’t get passed along to people who lived far away. But if news was super-duper good news, then a special person was sent to travel to everyone who needed to know. He would walk into towns and shout the good news so everyone in the town could hear. He was called a herald, and his message was gospel – news that was so good it was worth traveling miles to shout it out to people.           
What kind of news would be good enough for that? It’s got to be more than good news, doesn’t it? It’s got to be the best news every!
But not only is the gospel that the Bible talks about good news, it’s also power. Look at the pictures below. How powerful is each of these things?
