Saved from Being God
What do you think it would be like to be God?
How hard would it be to be perfect all the time – because, after all, God is perfect?
How good a job could you do looking after all the people on the earth, and all the animals and birds and fish and insects, and all the plants, and the weather, and the sun and moon and all the stars?
Do you think maybe it’s a good thing you aren’t God, and someone wiser and bigger and better than you is?
Remember that Satan tricked Adam and Eve into believing that they could be just like God – they could decide all on their own how to live. That’s what the Bible calls “sin” – thinking you can live life without bothering about God. And Adam and Eve’s children were born like that, and so were we. Why is that? Because God made things so that when babies are born, they are just like their parents. Look at the pictures below, and draw a line from the parent to the baby.

Notice that when babies are born, they are just like their parents, only smaller. When Adam and Eve had children, those children were like them. But remember that Adam and Eve had sin in their lives. So when they had children, guess what those children had in their lives, too.
Yes, their children had sin, and their children’s children had sin. In fact, everyone in the world has been born with sin in their lives. Do you remember what sin is?
If
you said that sin is wanting to live without God, you’re right. Remember that
Adam and Eve were tricked into thinking that they could live good lives all on
their own, without God. And we are like them. It’s easy for us to not give God a
single thought all day long. It’s easy just to decide for ourselves what we
should do or shouldn’t do. But how often do we make mistakes and end up getting
into trouble with our parents or our teachers, or getting other kids mad at us?
That just proves we really can’t live good lives without God, doesn’t it?
That
isn’t the way God planned for children to be born. He wanted them to be born
perfect. But when Adam and Eve sinned, they were no longer perfect, and neither
were their children. Jesus can change all that. What does Jesus do to change it?
When we give our lives to Him, one of the things He gives us is faith. What is
faith?
Let’s look first at what we are like if we don’t have faith. If we don’t have faith:
x
We could care less about God.
x
We can’t understand about God. You will find this to be true with
some people you know. If you start to talk with them about God, they just think
all that talk about God is silly, and who would believe all that nonsense in the
Bible? Or they may just say that if you want to believe, that’s fine for you,
but they don’t really need to.
x
We never hear God speak to us.
x
We have no one to go to for help when we have problems so big even
our parents can’t fix them.
But when Jesus gives us faith, all that changes. We discover that:
☺
We want to know
more about God and how we can be friends with Him.
☺
The Bible makes
a lot of sense.
☺
We hear God
speak to us. If you have asked Jesus to be your Saviour and you think you have
never heard His voice, ask Him to help you hear. His voice usually comes like a
thought from somewhere deep inside you.
☺
We can pray for
help and know that He will answer us.
This makes life really interesting. All day long, we can talk to God, and He will talk back to us. We can ask Him what we should do if we don’t know, and He will tell us. If we have a problem, we can ask Him for help, and He will help us. We can read the Bible, and God will show us things there that are just for us. Every day, He is there for us, waiting to bless us. A blessing is something good. God has many blessings for those of us who have faith. Some of those blessings are:
He
will answer our prayers (Mark 11:24)[1]
He
will make it so we live really good lives (2 Peter 1:3)[2]
He
will tell us what to do when we are confused (Isaiah 58:11)[3]
When we are upset, He can calm us down (Matthew 11:28)[4]
He
makes it so we really enjoy life (John 10:10b)[5]
He
can give us joy even when sad things happen (John 15:11)[6]
He
can make it so we aren’t afraid (1 John 4:18-19)[7]
This is just a short list. We could go on and on. Because the Bible says that every blessing that there is in heaven we have right now if we belong to Jesus (Ephesians 1:3).[8] God loves us very much. He wants to bless our lives. So Jesus gives faith to us so we can trust God and live as His friends and receive everything good He wants to give us. We don’t want to live our lives on our own without giving God a second thought. We want to live our lives listening to Him and receiving everything He has for us.
